How we think about it
Maintenance is not complicated work. It is reliable work, which is rarer. The crews that lose these accounts lose them by skipping a week in July, not by mowing badly.
Loth & Son keeps a tight route through Lower Merion on purpose — the properties are minutes apart, so the schedule holds and somebody can come back the same week if something needs another look.

What this covers
-
Mowing
Weekly or bi-weekly, on a set day.
-
Edging
Along walks, drives and beds. It is what makes a lawn look cut rather than mown.
-
Trimming
Around everything a mower cannot reach.
-
Blow-down
Hard surfaces cleared before we leave.
-
Shrub & hedge pruning
On a schedule that suits the plant rather than the calendar.
Questions we get asked
What is the one-third rule for mowing?
Never take more than a third of the blade in one cut. Cut lower than that and the grass spends its reserves regrowing leaf instead of root, thins out, and lets weeds in. It is the reason a weekly schedule matters more than a low blade: a lawn cut on time can be kept at a sensible height without ever being scalped.
What is included in full-service lawn care?
For us it is the weekly visit — mowing, edging along walks, drives and beds, trimming around what the mower cannot reach, and a blow-down of the hard surfaces — plus the seasonal work that keeps the lawn worth mowing: core aeration and overseeding in September, spring and fall cleanups, mulch and bed edges, and pruning on the plant’s schedule rather than the calendar.
